I decided since June is just around the corner it was time for buzz cuts. I got the above picture just by snapping and not asking them to pose. I asked them to pose nicely for a picture and this is what I got...seriously, Heidi, how do you do it?

Watch out neighborhood...Mo is more mobile than ever! I wish this kid had some fear and would slow down. We have had construction on our street corner for the past few weeks and one side has been closed. It has been so nice to pretend to live on a cul-de-sac. My kids are loving riding all over our street without the car traffic.

My mom and dad gave Sam this MP3 player for his birthday. He loves to rock out with Mo. Right now our house is rockin out to "Dynamite", which is the Giants' Club song at their stadium this summer.

Another season of coaching Sam's soccer team. It is so fun to watch their skills develop. Sam is the little speedster on the field. He is loving soccer and hustles all over the field. He gets quite ticked off at mom/coach when he gets subbed out, especially if he has not scored in the game and feels he is owed more playing time.

My camera broke last November...so sad! James has been taking pictures on his phone...which are not bad, but I miss my camera. Here is what we have been up to this spring:
A trip to Moab. Don't try to run a half marathon when you are sick....miserable slowness! Great weekend with my family and friends though.

We got away from the miserable, snowy, cold, spring of Salt Lake and went to St. George with Reed and Heidi at the beginning of April. Heidi was nice to send me her pictures, as I was without a camera the whole time. Here are some of my favorites.

Reed's kids had never been to St. George or Zion. Zion is full of fun memories and family reunions. I am so glad we got to go. It was the last day you could drive your car through the park. The next day they started the shuttle buses.

We all had bikes down there. Reed, Caleb, and I even got to go mountain biking on this way fun trail right by the Jardines' condo. I couldn't believe how awesome Caleb did. Some of the downhill parts I had a hard time keeping up with him. Our last night there we spent all evening riding around the neighborhood on our bikes; racing each other, making an ice cream run. It felt like a summer evening.

We even swam outside at the Stewart's pool Saturday afternoon, only to drive home the next day in snow....another month of cold.

For Mother's Day my family gave me a camera! I even got it a few days early so I could document Sam's birthday party.

It was a fun weekend. Sam had his party Friday night. He went to 2 birthday parties on Saturday, with a soccer game in between. Spring is busy. We are loving soccer (when it is not snowing). I am coaching Sam's team again this Spring.

UEA Weekend....another visit from Grandma and Bapa

We were lucky to have another visit from my mom and dad over UEA weekend. The weather was beautiful and we had so much fun going to Thanksgiving point and the zoo.

Am I cut from the same mold as this lady or what?

This was a maze that you go through only making right turns. My dad tried to figure it out...Mo got bored after five minutes so went to find the others. He stood and pondered and then determined there was no solution and they had made a mistake. He of course notified the proper authorities. After a few reminders they finally came and checked it out.....to his satisfaction it was wrong. Someone had bumped a haystack while cleaning it. I laughed at my dad and told him he was having a "Monk moment".....he smiled and agreed.

Here he is proudly showing the kids the maze (after it was corrected). Don't give an engineer an problem with no solution....

This one did have a solution....note to future Corn Belly Maze goers: make sure you have a map in hand before entering the maze. They did not provide one to us. We asked a lady holding one in the maze where she got it, she gave us hers and told us where we were on the map. It took one PhD and one Masters to figure it out....but we did:)

Sam started 1st Grade

Sam has been telling me all August how excited he is that he gets to go to school all day. He

got to pick out his desk and his locker the night before school started and meet his teacher. He looks so grown up. After his first day I asked him what his favorite thing was. He replied lunch and recess...they get to have recess 3 times not just once. I guess that was what all the excitement was for...not reading, writing, math :)
Today we were getting ready to take him to school and he found out Mo was going to Kid's Club without him...he was so mad! I think he gets it now. He goes to school all day and Mo gets to play. Mo is more bored now that he has to play with me. His school doesn't start for 2 more weeks. Thankfully on the days I work he gets to have cousin Clark come over and build him awesome things out of Legos. He keeps asking me when Clark is going to come over.

Trip to St. George to say good bye to summer

Charisse invited us to play in St. George the week before school started to say goodbye to summer. We had a blast. Their pool has the amazing backdrop of snow canyon. We even got to go to dinner and swim with the Seninger gals because they were bringing Sierra down to school.
(Kathy is the one reading a cycling magazine with a shirt over her head.) We watched movies, decorated sugar cookies, and played games. Elias even beat me and Charisse in a game of Scrabble (with some helpful pointers on where to use the "x" tile and "s" tile to complete a double word score.)

My dad emailed a while ago and said to send him a "to do list" for next time they come up. He wanted to help us with some much needed items around our house.
They came up a few weeks ago and he went to town!!!

He built some awesome shelves in both bedroom closets!! I no longer have to stack things 5 feet high, fearing that they will fall on me when I go to retrieve something.

He also fixed broken shutters, a broken closet door, a leaky faucet, hung mirrors and hooks, and even found time to battle the spurge in my lawn.

Thanks Dad!!! You are the best. We can't thank you enough.
P.S. I have already started my next list--wink, wink.

4th of July in New Mexico

We got to spend another 4th of July in Los Alamos this year. I love going home to my small town and take part in the festivities. We packed it in and my kids were usually dirty from head to toe by the end of the day.

My mom had each kid make a boat to take to Bandelier and float down the stream. It was so much fun. She even taught them how to make homemade ice cream in sandwich baggies.

Our kids LOVE Reed and Heidi's kids!! They get along so well and love to play with them.

James flew in for the festivities on the weekend.

My brother and his dental partner, Dave Gartz, are in the Elders Quorum presidency together. They were in charge of popcorn at the church carnival. Busy guys. He even managed to find the time to fix a cavity in Sam's mouth. My brother is a great dentist. He gave Sam a you know what in his mouth (so mum's the word) and Sam had no idea.

We love playing in Grandma and Bapa's back yard!!

We also love playing in Reed and Heidi's. We barbaqued, made s'mores, and did fireworks there on Saturday.

Look how awesome his landscaping is. I am jealous.

Reed put on a great show for the kids. He even sent a flaming firework into his neighbor's backyard.

We went on a hike/picnic up to East Forks, Sunday afternoon...my favorite place in the Jemez Mountains.

James' Birthday is always close to Father's day. On Father's Day we took a picnic up to Storm Mountain. The three boys had a great time hiking and throwing rocks in the stream. No Father's Day would be complete without a superhero shirt to James picked out by Sam and Mo. They have theirs on too and love to all have their superhero wear on.
The next Sunday was his Birthday. We met friends over at Laird park to play a game of baseball and eat cake and ice cream. He even got a call from the Seningers in Switzerland on this birthday.

We got to spend a week with my family in San Diego for my parents' 40th anniversary. We had so much fun playing with cousins, going to the zoo, Sea World, Lego Land, and The Beach. My kids loved playing in the waves. Their Uncles built some awesome sand castles.

The 14 grandkids blended into the zoo life well!

Thank goodness James can handle the spinning, twirling rides. I take after my mom (as does Matt) and we watched Terri and James go on some of the rides with the kids.

Our New Neighbor

We have had a great fall! The boys have loved going out and "helping" James rake up leaves. It has been a beautiful fall. About a month ago we noticed this strange bird roaming around our neighborhood.

She has a mutual fear of the boys. They are fascinated with her, but keep their distance. She roams the neighborhood, but keeps mostly to our yard and our neighbor's yard. She has stopped traffic crossing the street. As it has gotten colder and no one has come to claim her we started to get worried about her. The kids even started praying for her in their prayers. I called Tracy Aviary, Wild life Services, etc... She is not a protected species, our little Peahen. They told me to call Animal Control if she is a bother....I know what that will mean. So we have claimed her and feed her. The kids call her Snowflake and look forward to finding her each morning sunning herself on our garbage cans, kitchen bay window ledge, or backyard fence. (I am always relieved to find her alive every morning and not lying dead on our driveway. How do I explain that to the kids?)
I will take any advice you can give me, but until then....ain't she a beauty???

Happy Halloween!!

We had a great time visiting Red Butte Garden's (after dark event), carving pumpkins with friends on family night, going to preschool programs, kindergarten parades, trick-or-treating at both mom and dad's work, and making mummy dogs/donuts at Stewarts. We got way too much candy an may have to visit Uncle Reed's office at Christmas time.

Trip to San Francisco

James and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary this year. We were too busy in the summer to get away, but we finally did it this september. We went to San Francisco with the Stewarts and Sheehans. It was a blast. The weather was great. We biked across Golden Gate Bridge into Saucalito, hiked in the Muir wood, shopped around Union Square, went to a Jazz club, and of course went to a Giants game. Thanks to James' sisters and mom for watching the boys while we were gone.

First of all, thank you Gina for emailing me this picture. This is the only picture I have been able to save on our computer since January. We have had computer issues and are finally getting a new computer. More blog updates are sure to come. I have enjoyed keeping up with everyone else's blog.
This picture was taken at swim lessons. The boys took swim lessons the last part of our summer vacation. They both did great and loved their teachers. Sam will actually put his head under the water (finally) and even likes it now. They always finished their lessons with a soak in the hot tub and a jump on the trampoline. It made for a fun routine for the last 4 weeks.
Our June and July was crazy but fun. We have traveled to NM, Lake Tahoe, Bear Lake, and St. George. I was able to work 2 days a week while the boys played with their cousins Savannah and Sierra.
This fall Sam started Kindergarten. He loves his teacher and having something on his social agenda every afternoon. Mo is adjusting to having mom as a playmate more and Sam less. He will start preschool this week and go on tues/thurs afternoon. James and I invested in carseats for both cars. He works from home on tues/thurs and I will work those afternoons, so we start the routine of school carpool drop offs and pick ups.

New Beginnings

We had a great New Beginnings this week. Our president picked the theme "Be loyal to the Royal within You." All the girls were princesses in waiting. They were given a quest to perform to their family to prove they were worthy to become princesses

After their quests, they were given arrows to pin on the dragon while blindfolded. It was so much fun and the girls were great sports.

After they slayed the dragon the bishop crowned them. We had paper bag crowns, because we had read "the Paper Bag Princess " (A must read-especially if you have little girls) earlier that evening. He also talked to them about the war we are fighting against satan and the tools they have been given.

We have the best group of girls. I love working with them and our leaders every week. It truly is a blessing in my life.

It also helps to have a brother who is a fantastic artist. He drew exactly what I wanted, to the scale I wanted. He did it freehanded, without any picture....amazing. Thank you Tom!!! (apparently he has drawn a lot of dragons, unicorn, and castles during sacrement meeting:)

Junior Jazz Sam

Sam's friend asked him to play basketball with him this winter. (Yes they do start them that young) He started Junior Jazz two weeks ago and loves it. Last week he kept asking if he was going to play basketball today. On the morning of his game he woke up at 6 am and was dressed and ready to play. He then bugged James every 5 minutes, asking if it was time yet, until his 9am game.

Halloween on Christmas

It looks like we are getting ready to trick-or-treat. Santa brought Hulk and Clone Trooper paraphernalia to the boys. It was a lot of fun and also very wild.

The boys are trying to figure out just how Santa gets up and down the chimney. They decorated sugar cookies to leave for Santa with some milk.

We decorated a gingerbread train earlier in december. Each night I would pull it down and let them attack it. They didn't mess with their hands....mouths are more efficient.

Happenings during the holidays

We have had fun during this holiday season. It started by getting bunk beds over Thanksgiving weekend. The boys have loved being in the same room together. So far there have been no injuries...just a lot of late nights with tired kids in the morning.

We went to the Festival of Trees to see the Plummers tree that they do in honor of their daughter, Lucy. Our Young Women had made one too. The boys loved it.

The first day it snowed the boys were so excited. They squeezed into boots and snow suits from last year and had a blast. Why don't they make gloves for little kids? I have only found mittens. Their little hands freeze.

Sam's preschool was cancelled this morning because his preschool teacher's grandfather died and she was attending his funeral. Sam has never thought about death or funerals. This is the first person he has had to think about in those terms. He knows he gets in trouble if he says "I am going to kill you."... Darn those superhero cartoons. But I don't think he really knows what death is. All day he has been asking me why people die? why do people get old?It is a lot to process for a 4 year old. I have told him we will all die eventunally and get to go back and live as families with Heavenly Father. He then said "will Molly die?" This Katherine and Ryan's dog who he bonded with on our treat to Ouray. Boy, those wheels are turning.

History has been made

I don't want to get preachy about politics, but regardless of who we voted for and what issues sent us to vote, we all have to sit back and acknowledge the many great things that have happened this past election. As James and I sat and watched Obama give his acceptance speech (if you didn't hear it check it out http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_pl135) James commented that the first president that Sam will probably remember will be an african american and how cool that concept is. We are truly seeing the ideals that my generation has been taught come to pass. It was amazing to see how many people voted for a man based on the content of his character and not the color of his skin. It was interesting to see how many firsts we had in this last election.

On Halloween afternoon we went up to James' work for trick-or-treating. They had icecream "monster mush" sundaes to assemble at the end. Nothing like a pile of candy to go on icecream. This went well with the candy the boys had been shoveling in all day.

My fun purchase of the summer was a bike trailer. These are the best. The boys love it and mom gets a good workout. With all these nice fall days we have gotten some good bike rides in.

We had a family night with three other families in our ward the monday before Halloween. We decorated sugar cookies and carved pumpkins. This is Sam's buddy Josh.

We decided to try out the trick-or-treating at Hogle Zoo this year (along with 24,000 others). It was a madhouse. The kids had fun with their cousins Ike and kaitlyn, but we will not be adding this to our "things we must do again next fall"list.

One of our favorite Halloween time activities is visiting the Garden after Dark at Red Butte Gardens. They even had light sabers that actually glowed. Those are spider hats on their heads if you are wondering.

Ouray-- "The Switzerland of America"

We went to the prettiest town in Colorado over UEA. It is this quaint, little town completely surrounded by tall mountains. It is about 90 miles south of Grand Junction. We were expecting to be cold --its 78oo ft and its the middle of october-- but we were spoiled. The weather was warm and sunny. We spent the weekend exploring ghost towns and waterfalls, playing at parks, hot tubbing, and enjoying the fall leaves and good food. We went with our good friends, the Jones. We always have a great time with them.

I got an unexpected call from my youngest brother Matt saying he was coming into town to do some recruiting for Rice and give a Colloqium (fancy word for lecture on his research) down at BYU. Me and my aunt Julie decided to go and show our support. (No, we were not the only females in the room)

I was so proud of him (even though I had not idea what he was saying). He was so poised and confident. He was so worried about the questions they might ask and being able to answer them. I told him to use the Sarah Palin strategy, it seemed to work for her. But he was able to answer all their questions. The picture in the middle is him talking physics geek talk with some guys after. I asked his former professor if the average 3rd and 4th year physics major would have been able to follow this presentation and he said no way. Each time I have Matt explain his research to me on a dumbed down scale I understand a little bit more. maybe by the time he graduates (in a year hopefully) I will be able to say "my brother is graduating with a degree in atomic physics from Rice University. He did he his studies on ......" So what does a guy with a PhD in atomic physics do for a living you ask? They can get a job in the industry working for an oil company doing research on alternative energy---that is so cool. I am so proud of you Matt.

Big Boy Mo

We decided it was time to potty train Mo. Once Mo learned he could poop for candy he was on board. After he got the hang of things he looked up at me while on the toilet and said "Mom, can you give me some privacy?" He is doing so well and in true Mo style-insisting he do it all himself. This has been his outfit of choice for the last month-underwear and his superman cape. It has been nice to leave the house without a diaper bag. I may go buy myself a smaller purse.

A rare moment for me

I am currently sitting here with me feet propped up watching a rerun of Gilmore Girls and looking at people's blogs while I enjoy a diet coke and a quiet house. Yes, a quiet house. This has not happened for well years. Sam went to a play group after preschool and Mo is taking a nap. I have the house to myself and it is a foreign feeling. In the past I would take the opportunity to clean or organize something. My boys have gotten so good and playing with each other, that I can do those projects while they are awake and in the home. I have organized all my closets this fall and even our messy basement. When Mo went down, I thought I am going to just hang out and enjoy the silence. This is a wonderful moment. I can't remember when this last happened.

First Camping Trip!!! (Finally)

James found out he had a vacation day that had to be used and we were feeling bad another summer had past and we still had not taken the boys camping. We planned a spontaneous trip down to Moab where it would be a little warmer. The weather was beautiful and we had a blast. We decided this trip needed to be documented so we went out and got a new camera. We knew the boys would love it, but we were not sure how James and I would do, so we decided for our first time we would just get a campspot at a paid campground in Moab. (Its nice to camp and be 100ft from flushing toilets and warm showers--especially when you are potty training your two year old). The boys did great both nights and with the purchase of earplugs James and I did better on the second night--RV campgrounds are noisy!!!! The first morning We woke up to 3 farts from Mo and him rolling over to ask "Is this our tent?"We spent all day saturday hiking in Arches. The weather was beautiful and the boys are awesome hikers. We probably went about 4 miles by the time the day was done. They loved scaling the walls up to the arches and finding caves to play in.

They even let us take another hike sunday morning before we left Moab. We caught lizards, threw rocks in the stream, and of course found sticks for weapons.

Heidi took this picture of my boys on Temple Square when they were visiting. I love this picute and am amazed they were still long enough for her to get some cute poses. I think its because they watched her well-trained picture posing family do it first. Thanks for the picture Heidi. We had so much fun with Reed and Heidi's family when they came up. Sam loved having sleep overs with cousins in his room. He was devastated when they had to go home.

James has been with Master Control 1 year. They put on a fun family party each summer at Thanksgiving Point. The boys had a blast. They jumped, played in the water, got a balloon Spiderman, and ate snow cones. Our camera is still broken. Thank goodness for digital cameras and email.

So we went to this most excellent reunion concert last saturday. The Police worked out their differences (not really-they just love fame and money) and put on a concert. We were all pleasantly surprised. You never know how bands are going to be when they reunite. It was so much fun. We went with a group of friends. We were a bunch of 30 and 40 year olds rocking out to a group of 50 and 60 something year olds. Good times!!!!! Usana theater parking sucks!!!!!! Anyway my good friend Rachel sent me pictures since well I have no camera at this time. By the way James' shirt is 22+ years old.

Our Ward does a fun primary parade and pancake breakfast on the 4th. We wanted to participate in this before we went up to Bear Lake for the Jardine family reunion. Our good friend took this picture for me, because my camera is broken. We had a lot of fun on the 4th. The boys loved tubing behind uncle Glenn's boat with their cousins and watching them knee board and ski. They even got to watch mom ski (or at least try to). We rented a surry (bike with a cover on top and bench in front for kids to sit on) and biked around Garden City with the kids.

People have been giving me a hard time because I have not updated my blog. In June I put it off because I was busy with YW's Wilderness camp and Youth Conference. At the end of June we went to the SL Art's Festival and had blast. We got the boys' faces painted, ran through the fountains after spilling really expensive smoothies all over our wagon, and listened to our family favorite band, Atherton. While we sat there listening to great music, I thought this will make a great blog. I will finally update it. Mo was getting restless and grabbed my camera. At first I thought oh no, get it away from him. But it seemed harmless enough, he started to take pictures and was sitting there content. Well, 2 years should not handle expensive electronics period!!! He broke the shutter and my camera is out of commision. No blog for the arts festival, the 4th of july, or the police concert. Well that is my sad story. I will work on getting my camera fixed and getting some posts by the time Reed and Heidi come up to visit.

Today we went up to Kathryn's grave. We go up every year on her birthday. My mom sends up yellow balloons for the boys to send up to heaven. We also pick out flowers. Here are the years 2004-2008. It is still a difficult concept for the boys to grasp, but we hope that each year they will understand a little bit more about her and where she is. We always appreciate the calls and cards sent to us around that time.

Girls Trip

I went on a trip with my friends Katherine and Lori. We have been friends forever. The last time we took a trip together was 11 years ago, right before Katherine got married. We went to Monterey, California. It was so fun and beautiful. We rented a jeep and drove down from Oakland. We had a blast hiking around Big Sur, biking along the coast towards Pebble Beach, shopping, and of course eating great food. We got to stay at the Hilton Gardens thanks to Derek. He gave us his hotel points to use. We had a complimentary breakfast every morning where a chef made whatever we wanted.

Buzzed Boys

We decided to buzz our kids heads. Mo has this wacky skin thing that we have to apply a lotion to and we thought a shaved head would be easier. Sam of course wanted it done too. Man, next time we will try the 3 guard. Our boys are bald little toe-heads.

After I did the Moab half marathon I decided to keep in shape for another one in Salt Lake. It was fun running through our city. We started at the Olympic bridge and ended up at Gateway. It was so inspiring running with everyone. James walked down from our house with the boys at the 6 mile mark to see us run by. I ran with my friend Charisse. We kept each other going and it was so helpful. We also ran with Shawn and Melissa Stringham (they were way ahead of us trying to make their 2:03 goal-which they did!). Everyone asks if I am going to do a marathon or a triathalon now. I said I would like to try a 5k or 10k first, I've never even done one of those.

Learning how to blog

Breaking all the Rules

The boys enjoyed a wagonride to the car. We even got a visit from our friend Charisse Stewart, who is a nurse and PCMC, and happened to be on shift today. The afternoon at home was actually pretty relaxing. Sam played with his Jedi toys all afternoon while watching Superhero cartoons with dad. Both kids enjoyed the laxity in rules, such as having the binky out of the crib, toys at the table, and all the juice they requested. Doctor Tagge is an awesome ENT. We recommend him to everyone. He had a great bedside manner with the kids and very approachable and informative to us. He said we will probably see two very different kids. There was quite a bit of fluid and pressure in the ears, causing much discomfort. It was so gratifying to practically whisper to Sam from across the room and have him look up and respond. Our volume of communication had been so loud lately because he could not hear very well.

Cannon Moseley Jardine-AKA "Mo"

Mo went first. He got a wagon ride back to the OR by the Anaesthesiologist. All was going well with the separation until they encountered the therapy dog. Mo is very afraid of dogs and started to look back at us and cry. The child life specialist said he calmed down quickly once safely away from the dog in the OR. Both kids were pretty rattled coming out of the anaesthia, especially because mom and dad were no where to be found. After the help of grape popcicles, apple juice, and of course morphine, both boys calmed down and transitioned to the recovery room well. It was funny to see Mo looped out on the morphine; he kept pointing at Sesame street holding the remote control and giggling.

Brave Toys

Sam was so brave the whole time. We gave him some Jedi toys to help him be brave (he calls them his brave toys). The child life specialist came out to prepare Sam for the procedure. He got this doll to color and practice on. When the doctor came out Sam jumped right up into his arms and went back with the team. The child life specialist came out after Sam was put under and commented on what a great team of docs we had. Apparently the ENT and Anaesthesiologist were flying speeder bikes around and entertaining Sam while he was getting the gas to fall asleep.

Tubes for Two!!

After 5 consecutive months of ear infections we decided to see the ENT doc. He said all four ears look terrible and recommended tubes in and adenoids out. He said to do both boys at the same time. (He once did a family of 5 kids all on the same day.) This morning we took both boys up to Primary Children's Hospital. Let me tell you having a kid with three last names who goes by a nickname is very confusing for all involved in the same-day surgery process. Adding one more kid with the same last name, well its no wonder they labeled us all like this.

The boys had a great time coloring Easter eggs for the first time. Our eggs were Star Wars and Cars Movie themed. My friends, Katherine and Lori, and I decided to keep the tradition that our mothers started and made an Easter egg hunt for our kids the saturday before Easter. It was a lot of fun. It always amazes me how much chocholate the kids can eat in a 24 hour period.

Sam is the best big brother to Mo. He loves to play with him and does a great job sharing. It is fun to see their relationship developing. Sam loves preschool. He is learning his letters and always asking what letter certain words start with. He is into Star Wars and Super Heros. He has just recently discovered that dad has this endless supply of Star Wars figures that emerge from the basement one at a time to be played with only during Mo's nap time.

Mo is always on the go. He loves to follow Sam around, climb on everything, and eat crackers. He is pleasant and fun and speaking well. We tell him his name is Cannon too, but he just looks at us and says "no, its Mo."

Run Becky Run!!

This year haas been a year of firsts for us. Some how my life long friend, Katherine Lyman Jones talked me into training for the Moab Half Marathon. I fought off injuries and ran in 20 degree weather many times, but it was actually a very rewarding process. It can become addicting seeing if you can add a mile to your long run each week, then feeling proud that you did. The race was hard, but I finished. I completed the run with Katherine Jones and Melissa Stringham, and by with I mean behind. We made a weekend of it down in Moab with the Jones family. We spent the afternoon after the race swimming and hot tubbing- which was just what I needed. I am actually am going to try in one more time next month in the Salt Lake City Half Marathon.
